Well the good part atleast is that giving a tune up to an audi is no different then giving a tune up to any other car from 2002. Your lucky enough to be equipped with an electronic distributor so really the only thing that you should need to buy are spark plugs and spark plug wires. shouldnt be more than $50 for everyhting. One other thing that I can suggest is that when you change the park plugs, pick up some boot sealant for the plugs…. just ask the guys at your local auto parts store and they will know exactly what you are talking about. I also recommend picking up a new air filter if you have not already done so. Getting more air and doing the tune up will have your car running like the day it was manufactured. Best of luck.

The answer to your question depends on how many miles you have on the car. There are certain repair/replacement procedures that should be done at certain mileage points. If you google audi.2002.maintenance.sched.pdf you will see the official maintenance schedule. Page 1 is for the A4, check the bottom of the page for the engine size legend. This, however, is just a guide to give you an idea of what Audi thinks your current mileage needs are. There are several special concerns and needs of the 1.8T engine that Audi does not have on that list. Such concerns would be the sludge issue, sudden and unpredictable failure of the coilpacks, just to name two. Hit the Audi forums. There’s a wealth of knowledge concerning the maintenance parts needed and the procedures to do the work, and most come with pics illustrating the process. Try audizine.com, then goto Tech Section then DIY How-To’s. Advanced topics are also discussed.
